The Department of Water Resources was created vide notification No. C.A-24/2009/25 Dated 25/08/2009. The Department of Water Resources now encompasses the functions of the former Irrigation Directorate of the Department of Agriculture along with the added responsibility of implementing Medium Irrigation Projects and Flood Control Works pertaining to Agricultural land. The Department has also been entrusted with the responsibility of collection of hydro meteorological and ground water data for improving the extent, reliability and accessibility of Water Resources information in the state. The Department shall co-ordinate with other State Government Departments in all matters relating to Water Resources.
The main function of the Water Resources Department is the implementation of Irrigation
Projects consisting of Surface Flow Irrigation schemes in all the District of the State.
Besides these, there are also Centrally Sponsored Schemes which are being implemented by
the Department such as the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) R.I.D.F.
schemes of NABARD, Command Area Development and Water Management (C.A.D.&W.M.)
Programmes and Rationalization of Minor Irrigation Statistics (R.M.I.S).
